PROJECT | LITTLE VILLAGE |
TYPE | SINGLE-FAMILY, MULTI-GENERATIONAL |
YEAR | 2021 – PRESENT |
LOCATION | NEW WESTMINSTER, BC, CANADA |
PHASE | BUILDING PERMIT |
SIZE | 3,960 SF |
Rather than uniting multiple generations under “one roof”, we have opted to create a little village of houses that form one larger dwelling.
Individuals in the family can go about their separate lives while sharing a life together through common spaces, indoors and out.
The spaces were carefully considered to provide ample daylighting but also privacy where required.
Splitting the house into multiple masses both defines the individuals’ living within the house and creates opportunities for communal and private outdoor spaces.
The play of different roof heights and masses creates the sense of a miniature village while a single color unifies the dwelling as a whole.
